Fresh And Salterwater Fishing In The Greater Citrus County
Citrus County excels as one of the top destinations for legendary fishing that draws a crowd.
Fishing is a way of life in Citrus County that goes back generations. Some of the best fishing guides found anywhere, inshore and offshore, are right here with experience gained from a lifetime on the water.
Every local and regional angler has heard of the Chassahowitzka, Halls, Crystal or Homosassa Rivers. These are proven classic adventures, featuring gin-clear freshwater springs, beautiful landscapes and boatloads of fish.
Both freshwater and saltwater species are here in Citrus County. Bass, sheepshead, mullet and bluegill being a few of the common catches near the headwaters. As these rivers make their way to the Gulf of Mexico, anglers cruise shallow grassy flats teeming with redfish, spotted sea trout, snook and tarpon.
Crystal River and Homosassa on the Gulf of Mexico are your gateways to saltwater angling. Popular saltwater catches include cobia, red grouper, mackerel, gag grouper, grey snapper, hogfish, sheepshead, snook and triggerfish. Massive tarpon, redfish and more are catches offshore, especially in the warmer months.
Dolphins and manatees are commonly spotted, turning a regular day of fishing into a full-blown eco-tour.
