May Activities And Events At The Villages Of Citrus Hills

Can you believe that the month of May is here already? Just like that, spring has sprung and many of our snowbirds are heading up north for a few months.

If you are one of those snowbirds, did you know that you can simply put your emails from the Villages of Citrus Hills on hold while you are away? All you have to do is hit “reply” to one of the emails and let us know when you are leaving and when you expect to be back.

Of course, you could also just keep reading the emails while you are away. You can also get the Connections newsletter sent to you up north if you would like. All you have to do is update your address and we’ll make sure you stay up on everything happening here all summer long!

Speaking of things happening around here, let’s jump in and check out some of the exciting events and activities that are on deck this month.

Social Events

One of the biggest events of May is right around the corner. “Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience” will be performing in the Activity Center Auditorium on Friday, May 6 at 7 pm. It won’t be exactly the same as seeing John, Paul, George, and Ringo live, but these guys are awfully close!

On Sunday, May 15 there is a group of members heading down to Tampa to watch our hometown Rays take on the Oakland Athletics. The $45 for this event includes a ticket to the game, round trip transportation, and a free Rays hat.

The West Mays Wonders were the big winners at the Trivia Challenge in April. They will be looking to defend that title at this month’s challenge on Tuesday, May 17.

The Ladies of the Little Black Dress Club are going to be hosting a Wine Tasting event in the Garden Room on Tuesday, May 24 at 2 pm. There will be a wine connoisseur on hand to teach about different types of wine, and there will also be plenty to taste!

The social events will close out the month with a Summer Splash Sunday pool party at the Activity Center Pool on Sunday, May 29 from 1 pm to 4 pm. This is a completely free event that will have live music and lots of fun.

Arts & Education

Health and wellness coaches Ann Marie Simonelli and Teresa M. Matthews will be speaking on the topic of Healthy Aging in the Activity Center Auditorium at 1 pm on Wednesday, May 11.

Then Michelle Arevalo, who is the director of the Wound Care Center at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center, will be at the Activity Center on Monday, May 16 at 2 pm to speak about wound care and treatment.

Local artist Vanessa Fuller-Brown will be back with another installment of Coffee and Canvas this month on Wednesday, May 18. If you have not participated in one of these events yet, you really don’t know what you’re missing. This month, the class will be replicating Claude Monet’s “Garden of Irises.”

The Citrus Hills Vacationers Club will be hosting guest speaker Kathy Hildebrandt on Monday, May 23 in the Activity Center. She will be speaking about her experience with all-inclusive cruises through Voyages to Antiquity cruise lines.

Last but not least in the arts and education events will be the Speaker Series welcoming B.J. Jarvis and Steven Davis to discuss the interesting topic of “When Bad Landscapes Happen to Good People.” This discussion will be held on Wednesday, May 25 at 1 pm in the Activity Center Auditorium.

Golf & Tennis

While many of our members will be golfing up north through the summer months, there are still plenty of golf events to participate in right here at the Villages of Citrus Hills this month.

We are going to open the month with the Citrus Hills Cinco de Mayo Open on May 7 and then close out the month with the Skyview Memorial Day Tournament on May 30. In between those events, there will be a Skyview Better Ball Tournament on May 9 and 10, as well as a VIP Tournament at Skyview on May 23.

Over on the tennis side, the monthly Free Beginner Tennis Clinic will be held at the Skyview Tennis Center on Tuesday, May 10 starting at 11 am.

Dinner Specials

Most of the highlighted dinner specials around the Villages of Citrus Hills revolve around three major holidays this month.

You can celebrate Cinco de Mayo on May 5 with a Fajita Station and Build-Your-Own Taco Bar at Skyview Restaurant, partake in some great fajita specials at the Grille, or enjoy the Taco Bar at the Tiki Bar.

There will be Mother’s Day Brunch Specials at both Skyview Restaurant and the Grille on Sunday, May 8. Skyview will be serving a sit-down dinner with some fabulous options, and there will be a traditional brunch buffet with carved prime rib, pork loin, and turkey breast at the Grille.  Both Skyview Restaurant and the Grille will also be serving up Memorial Day specials on Monday, May 30. Skyview’s menu includes all-you-can-eat BBQ chicken and St. Louis style ribs. Over at the Grille, there will be a BBQ chicken and pulled pork buffet with all the fixin’s!

If you happen to find yourself with some extra time to pamper yourself this month, BellaVita Spa is running some really great specials that include an Orange Peel Facial and $10 off any 60-minute massage.

Have a great month, and enjoy the fun!
