Discovering Inverness: A Culinary Journey with Tastes and Tales Tour
A Warm Welcome at the Historic Inverness Courthouse
My recent adventure began at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum, where I joined the Tastes and Tales tour led by the knowledgeable and enthusiastic Elizabeth Fernley. Elizabeth, with her background in leading foodie events for the city government, ensured that we were in for a treat. As we gathered and mingled, the excitement was palpable. Our first stop was Twysted Vine, an upscale wine shop. Here, we were treated to a delightful pairing of Pinot Grigio and shrimp Caesar salad. The on-site sommelier and owner shared fascinating insights about the restaurant's connection to historic Inverness, making the experience even more enriching.
Savoring Local Flavors and Exploring Downtown Murals
As we continued our journey, we took in the beautiful murals adorning downtown Inverness. Elizabeth’s extensive knowledge about the art and history of the area added depth to our experience. Our next culinary stop was The Bistro Too Pizza Kitchen, where we savored delicious pizza paired with beer from Marker 48, a local brewery based in Weeki Wachee, FL. The flavors were incredible, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. We also explored the ever charming Olde Inverness Antique shop, where the owners shared intriguing stories about the area's history and its inhabitants.
Indulging in Sweet Treats at Cattle Dog Roasters
Our third stop was at Cattle Dog Roasters, a local gem known for its exceptional coffee and creative treats. Here, we indulged in a delightful spread that included peach tiramisu, Cuban coffee, passion fruit, and a brussels sprout flatbread. As we walked through Inverness, we came across the stunning Military Memorial at Inverness City Hall, featuring Sgt. Amy Perkins and Spc. Ontario Washington. This magnificent piece, originally from MacDill Airforce Base, has found a fitting home in the patriotic town of Inverness, FL, serving as a beautiful tribute to the veterans.
Concluding with a Perfect Sip at Storm Distillery
The final stop on our tour was Storm Distillery, where we had the opportunity to try locally crafted rum in a delicious mojito. The experience was a perfect conclusion to a day filled with delightful tastes and fascinating tales. The Tastes and Tales tour lasts about three hours and requires a certain level of comfort with walking, but it is an excellent way to get to know the area, connect with local businesses, and immerse yourself in the rich history and vibrant community of Inverness. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this tour is a must-do to truly appreciate the charm and culinary delights of Inverness, FL.
