Florida’s varying landscapes and cultures make it easy to take a weekend vacation without ever leaving.
We started out the series of articles by identifying the climate, cost, and communities as the key reasons that Florida was the perfect place to retire. Then we dove into reasons like vacations, sports, seafood, and manatees. After that, we got even deeper with reasons like fishing spots, wardrobe options, and golf cart commutes.
But we still haven’t even scratched the surface of all the reasons that Florida is the perfect place to retire. We’ve got it all here, and there really is something for everyone. With that in mind, let’s check out five more reasons that people are still flocking to Florida when it’s time for them to retire.
The Food
No matter what type of food you are looking for, you can almost certainly find it close to whatever Florida destination you choose. We’ve got New York style pizza, upscale Italian restaurants, and the best seafood options on the planet.
Since Florida has become such a melting pot of cultures from all over the country, there are lots of fantastic restaurant options. And since there are so many people looking for great restaurants down here, more and more keep popping up.
Real Estate Prices
Right around the bottom of the market following the 2008 real estate collapse, people all over the country were talking about the crazy deals that were available here in Florida. Some of those stories were true. Some were exaggerated. But they were all based on the same core idea: real estate prices in Florida are really affordable when compared to lots of other places in the country.
Affordable real estate is a trend that continues in Florida today. You can still purchase a brand new home in many wonderful communities for prices that make the rest of the country look awfully expensive!
Day Trips
Floral City
One of our favorite topics on this blog is all of the great destinations that are within driving distance of the Villages of Citrus Hills. No matter where you are in Florida, there are hundreds of awesome places to see within a few hours drive of wherever you are.
Since virtually every town in Florida is a tourist destination, they are all very welcoming to visitors and make excellent options for day trips.
Local Arts & Culture
Everyone knows that Florida is the place for vacations and Disney World. But not everyone realizes that Florida is a hotbed for local arts and culture pretty much across the entire state.
There are thousands of small community theaters located across the state, as well as lots of big art museums and other cultural attractions in many of our major cities and college towns.
Beaches & Boat Trips
The big advantage that Florida has over many of the country’s other coastal destinations is that we are located close to multiple options for beaches and boat trips.
Deep sea fishing on the Atlantic Ocean side is a completely different experience from Tarpon fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, and neither of those is the same as the relaxing sunset cruises you will find in the Keys.
As you can see, there are lots of things about Florida that make it a perfect destination for retirees.
If you are thinking about making the move down south, Florida is the ultimate retirement destination.
