The name April originally came from Aprilis, meaning 'to open', as the opening, or blossoming, of trees and flowers.
They say that April showers bring May flowers, but we have those flowers all year round. April is also the month of The Masters, but we’ve also got fantastic golf all year. So while the rest of the country is getting excited about the month of April, it is pretty much business as usual here at the Villages of Citrus Hills.
But business as usual here is anything but ordinary. Once again this month our activities and events calendar is absolutely packed with all kinds of fun social events, arts and education workshops, golf tournaments, and dinner specials. Let’s take a closer look at some of the exciting events planned for April.
Social Events
Skyview Restaurant is hosting a Titanic-inspired Wine and Dinner event on Tuesday, April 12 that is going to feature a fabulous five-course meal and wine pairing. This would normally be something we mention in the Dinner Specials section, but the idea of a dinner inspired by the majestic Titanic is going to create so much buzz in the community that this might become the biggest social event of the month.
The winning team from the March Trivia Challenge was Spare Parts, but Cheers and In The Hunt were right behind them. This month’s Trivia Challenge will take place on April 19, so start getting your team ready!
Another big social event planned for April is the Doo Wop Sock Hop scheduled for Friday, April 22 in the Hampton Room. Doors open for this event at 6:30 pm and there will be music and dancing from 7-10 pm with Rocky and the Rollers performing!
Looking forward to next month, the Citrus Hills Vacationers Club will be hosting a Suitcase Dinner Party in the Hampton Room on Thursday, May 12 where one lucky person will win a trip for two to fabulous Las Vegas.
Arts & Education
This month’s DocTalk topic is Heartburn Prevention. There will be two guest speakers in the Activity Center on April 13 at 5 pm discussing everything you can do to improve your heartburn issues and prevent them in the future.
Local artist Vanessa Fuller-Brown will be back for another installment of Coffee & Canvas on Wednesday, April 20 starting at 10:30 am in the Activity Center. This month, she will be instructing the class on replicating Georgia O’Keefe’s “Blue Flowers.” Tickets for Coffee & Canvas are $60 and include everything you will need to replicate the painting…including the coffee.
Richard K. Hurley from Cory & Hurley Law Group will be speaking at the Activity Center on Thursday, April 28 at 1 pm. He will be discussing “How to Successfully Deal With the VA.” This should be an information-packed session for anyone who is currently dealing with Veteran’s Affairs.
There will be a Spring Wreath Workshop in the Activity Center Auditorium on Wednesday, May 4. While this event isn’t happening until next month, tickets are going to go fast, so make sure you get yours purchased soon!
Golf & Tennis
While the PGA might have The Masters this month, we have quite a few tournaments of our own here at the Villages of Citrus Hills in April.
Over the course of the month, we will be playing the Skyview Men’s Club Championship, the Skyview Ladies’ Spring Invitational, the Skyview Ryder Cup, and the Citrus Hills Ladies’ Club Championship. There will also be a Demo Day on April 2 and an Awards Dinner on April 25.
Over on the tennis side, this month’s Free Beginner Tennis Clinic will take place on Tuesday, April 12 at 11 am at the Skyview Tennis Center. Then the Men’s & Women’s Doubles Championship Tournament will take place April 15-17.
Dinner Specials
Seafood lovers will definitely want to mark Thursday, April 14 on their calendars. That is Lobster Night at Skyview Restaurant. Dinner will feature a Live Maine Lobster served with red potatoes, corn on the cob, and drawn butter.
Another April dinner special to look forward to is the Country Cooking Dinner on Tuesday, April 26. Members attending this dinner will have their choice of Chicken and Waffles, Pecan Crusted Trout, Shrimp and Grits, and Down Home Ribs.
The Tiki Bar will be having Caribbean Night on Thursday April 28 with a buffet that will include Jerk Chicken, Grilled Swordfish, salad, and veggies. There will also be live music from Bickley Rivera.
If you are looking for a great way to pamper yourself in between events and activities this month, BellaVita spa has got you covered with specials like their Spring Cleaning Facial and the Citrus & Green Tea Spa Pedicure.
