No matter which question got you interested, the answer is The 36thAnnual Citrus Sertoma Oktoberfest celebration happening on October 2nd through the 4th near the Crystal River Mall, just 20 minutes from the Villages of Citrus Hills.
What is Oktoberfest?
Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival that is held in Munich, Germany for 16 days every fall. It generally starts in late September and runs through the first weekend of October.
Nearly six million people attend the Oktoberfest celebration in Munich every fall, but millions more participate in their own celebrations around the world.
Essential components of any Oktoberfest celebration include beers that represent the traditional German Marzen style, delicious German food, and authentic German folk music.
What’s on the Menu?
The German Marzen style beers were traditionally brewed in March and then stored in cool cellars during the summer and were then ready to drink around late September. They are known for rich malt flavor and very mild hops.
On the food side, Oktoberfest is all about bratwurst, knockwurst, cheddarwurst, German hot dogs, and sauerkraut. Sides like pierogies, potato pancakes, and potato dumplings are also staples of Oktoberfest.
What’s on the Schedule?
The 36th Annual Citrus Sertoma Oktoberfest celebration will take place from 4 pm to midnight on Friday, October 2nd. The action will then resume from 11 am to midnight on Saturday, October 3rd. And then the final day will be from 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday, October 4th.
There will be authentic live German music from The DeLeon Band on Friday night and all day Saturday. Then The Terry Cole Band will take the stage on Sunday.
Sunday will also be the day of the Car Show where you will have the chance to vote on best original car, best customized car, and the overall best car of the show.
In addition to the great entertainment and the car show, there will be tons of local vendors serving authentic German food, arts and crafts booths, carnival rides, plus many other tables and booths to keep you busy. There will also be an RV Show sponsored by Arrow RV.
There is a $3 entrance fee to attend the event, and all proceeds go to benefit local charities. Children under the age of 12 get in free. Some of the local charities that will benefit include Children’s Sertoma Therapy of Citrus County, Camp Endeavor, and Sertoma Youth Ranch.
