We’re excited to announce that Where to Retire magazine has named our community to the short list of the 50 best master-planned communities in the country! The national publication is well respected for the information they provide to those looking for retirement communities throughout the country.
The magazine’s nine-month selection process included reviews of several hundred candidates across the country. During the process residents were asked for insight into the community and the lifestyle.
Here at Citrus Hills Lynda and Joe Occhiuzzo participated in an interview. Lynda stated, “We felt awed, and our mouths dropped because you never expect anything like this in Florida – the rolling hills and a mixture of pines and palms”, said Joe, “It feels like an endless vacation.”
In making the Top 50 announcement the editors at Where to Retiremagazine applauded our masterfully planned community and said, “Your community is among an elite group of developments that offer today’s retirees a well-rounded, active lifestyle.”
Earlier this year the magazine recognized Terra Vista at Citrus Hills as a national “Best Neighborhood.” This is the second consecutive time the Villages of Citrus Hills been so honored.
Our location, just miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and surrounded on two other sides by lakes and rivers, make us a water lovers paradise. The area snorkeling and diving is among the best in the world, and as the winter home to hundreds of Florida manatees our county has been the subject of numerous documentaries and articles. Naturalist Jacques Cousteau filmed a documentary in the county featuring the manatees and most recently, in April of 2013, National Geographic highlighted the area in their story, Florida Is Mad About Manatees.
In 2010, Coastal Magazine noted the Crystal River as one of the top three snorkeling locations in the world, and a fresh water chain of lakes offers some of the best bass fishing to be found anywhere.
All this and more are just minutes from the Villages of Citrus Hills. The editors at Where to Retire magazine look at all aspects of a community and described us this way. "This laid back country club community is located amid spring-fed rivers and lush hills near Hernando, about one and a half hours from Tampa and Orlando. Inside the gates, owners of Mediterranean-style homes keep their calendar full of activities taking advantage of three golf courses, tennis courts, multiple clubhouses, restaurants and amenity centers."
We invite you to see what so many others are enjoying … active living in a resort-style setting in a beautiful Florida location that is second to none. We are Florida’s Premier Master-Planned Community.
