Everything is uniquely made and handcrafted and you might even leave with a beautiful vase that was finished earlier in the day.

Red Shirt, Homosassa, Florida by Winslow Homer, 1904

Every small town throughout the country has its share of unique attractions to see, and Homosassa is no exception. There are three great museums located in Homosassa, which is less than half an hour away from the Villages of Citrus Hills.

If you are interested in a variety of pottery or art, you will naturally love these places. But even if you aren’t a museum enthusiast, you can still have a lot of fun exploring these attractions on a rainy day.

Let’s check out what each of these three museums has to offer!

Olde Mill House Gallery and Printing Museum

The Olde Mill House Gallery and Printing Museum is privately owned by James Anderson, who also goes by Jimbo or just Bo. The museum is his personal collection of antique printing equipment and typewriters.

In addition to having an amazing display of old printing tools, he also has an amazing story to tell involving his own work in the printing industry. He will instantly make you feel comfortable as he tells you about the history of printing in Florida.

There is also a cafe here where Bo serves really good Cuban sandwiches, so lunchtime is the perfect time to stop by.

Watson’s Art Gallery & Studio

The Watson family is known for their amazing woodworking, but they also have other types of art on display here as well. There is a wide selection of local artists that all have their work on display.

If you are looking to have something custom-made for your home in the Villages of Citrus Hills, stop in and talk to the Watsons and you’ll be surprised what they can create for you.

They also have art classes that you can take!

Pepper Creek Pottery

This is the place for anyone interested in learning more about hand-made pottery.

The women at Pepper Creek Pottery are experts with years of experience. They welcome the opportunity to educate and explain exactly what goes into each piece as they make it.

There is always great work on display here and the prices are extremely reasonable for hand-made pottery. The shop is surrounded by other great craft shops.

The Unique Museum Itinerary

Since each of these museums is a fairly small operation, you can make a day out of exploring all three.

Starting your journey out at the Olde Mill House Gallery and Printing Museum is a great idea because you can grab lunch there as well. Then after heading to Watson’s Art Gallery & Studio and Pepper Creek Pottery you can finish your Homosassa adventure with dinner right on the water at The Freezer Tiki Bar.

These unique museums are part of the character that makes the Gulf Coast area of Florida truly special. Even if you don’t consider yourself a museum enthusiast, you can’t help but appreciate the passion that these local residents have for what they do. That alone makes these galleries worth a visit.
