The warm days of summer are finally here, and for many people the Fourth of July holiday marks the high point of their summer. In between your own private cookouts with friends and hanging out around the pool, there are also plenty of organized activities and events going on around the Villages of Citrus Hills this month.

Here are some of the activities and events that you will not want to miss out on.

Social Events

Movies on the Green returns on July 11 at the Skyview Golf Driving Range. This month, the movie is Last Vegas starring Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline. Popcorn will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring as many other snacks as you like. The movie will start playing right at sundown.

On Thursday, July 17, the Skyview Restaurant will be hosting Across the Pond and Canada, a social event specifically geared towards our international members that have come from Canada, England, the British Isles, or any other countries across the globe.

If you are looking to dethrone “The Crocs,” who won the Trivia Challenge in June, you will get your chance on Tuesday, July 22 in the Hampton Room. The Cash Bar for this event will open at 5:30 pm with dinner being served at 5:45 pm and the trivia game following at 6:30 pm.

Chick Chat participants will be pleased to hear that this month’s speaker is Sandra “Sam” Himmel, the Superintendent of Citrus County Schools, who will speak on the state of education in Citrus County. Her presentation begins after lunch, which will be served at noon on Friday, July 25.

Sports & Recreation

Anyone interested in learning the basics of tennis should attend the Free Beginner Tennis Clinic at the Skyview Tennis Center on Tuesday July 8 at 11:00 am. Basic fundamentals, rules, and score keeping will be taught to anyone who attends. Tennis shoes are required, but racquets can be borrowed from the tennis center.

It wouldn’t feel much like the month of July without a Red, White, & Blue Scramble! This year’s event will take place on Sunday, July 20 at the Brentwood Golf Course. It will be a 4-person scramble, and members can form their own teams or allow the pro shop to pair them up. Lunch, beer, and prizes will all be provided for the $20 entry fee.

As usual, there are also plenty of Golf Mixers scheduled this month on the Citrus Hills Course. Members can sign up for the Tiger Mixer on July 10, the Bonnie & Clyde Mixer on July 16, or Duffer’s Mixer on July 27. Each mixer costs $10 for members and includes food, beer, cart fees, and prizes.

Educational Talks

On Tuesday, July 15 guest instructors from PC’s N Parts and Boomtown Media will be giving a presentation on how to better utilize Windows 8 for your needs. This Tech 101 talk will take place in the Activities Center Auditorium at 3:00 pm.

Citrus County Extension Services Director B.J. Jarvis and Citrus County Yards and Neighborhoods Coordinator Steven Davis will be giving a talk on Florida-Friendly Landscaping on Tuesday, July 29 at 3:00 pm in the Activity Center Auditorium. This will be a great chance to learn more about what types of landscaping will work best for your home here in the Villages of Citrus Hills.

Dinner Specials

In a unique twist of the calendar, the Skyview Restaurant will be serving a Thanksgiving in July special on Tuesday, July 8. The menu will include Carved Turkey, Sliced Ham, Mashed Potatoes, Sage Bread Dressing, and many more Thanksgiving favorites. There will also be Pumpkin Pie and Cranberry Margaritas!

In case you don’t get enough great cookout food over the Fourth of July Weekend, the Tiki Bar will be having a Grill Out special on Tuesday, July 15 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The menu will consist of burgers, brats, baked beans, potato salad, and corn on the cob. There will also be a complimentary beer sampling for everyone in attendance.

On Tuesday, July 22, the Skyview Restaurant will be presenting American Classics. This dinner will consist of all of our favorite foods like Mac & Cheese Bites, Loaded Potato Skins, Buffalo Wings, Burgers, Catfish, New York Strip Steak, Chicken Tenders, and Apple Pie.

Another interesting special for this month will be Mediterranean Night at the Skyview Restaurant on Tuesday, July 29. This Mediterranean inspired feast will include Lamb Dolmathes, Stuffed Peppers, Souvlaki, Pastitsio, Lemony Chicken, and Honey & Almond Baklava.

Between the Skyview Restaurant, The Grille, and the Tiki Bar, there is a lunch or dinner special on almost every day in the month of July. When you pair that with all of the great social, recreational, and educational events this month, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to find themselves looking for something to do in the Villages of Citrus Hills.

Make sure you mark some of these great events down on your calendar so you don’t miss out on all of the fun!
