Local Art Galleries With Painting Sessions

Try your hand at creating a masterpiece at one of the group painting sessions while enjoying friends and beverages.

Citrus County is known around the world for its manatee population, all of its scenic water locales, and its historic state parks. But one niche aspect of Citrus County that doesn’t get nearly enough attention is the local art community. 

Whether you are an active artist yourself, someone who appreciates art, or are just looking for a way to spend an afternoon or evening, there are great art-based activities to see and do all around the Villages of Citrus Hills.

Most days of the week you can find local artists hard at work either teaching other locals or creating masterpieces of their own. Here are three of our favorite local art spots in Citrus County.     

Paint the Town Citrus

Paint the Town Citrus provides their guests with an interactive art experience where you create your own work of art! Afternoon or evening sessions can be scheduled with a local artist leading the entire group in painting their own masterpiece. 

This experience is designed to be very social, so there is complimentary wine, beer, soft drinks, and appetizers provided. There is also a fine art raffle where one person in each group will receive a piece of art from a renowned artist at every event. 

They are located on Highway 19 in Crystal River and make a great activity for groups of all sizes. They also offer lots of themed classes that are scheduled throughout each month! 

Happy Painting & More 

Located in Lecanto, Happy Painting & More is another great place to let your inner artist run wild. They offer group sessions similar to what Paint the Town Citrus does, but also have Open Studio sessions for adults Tuesday through Friday from 11 am to 5 pm. 

Happy Painting & More offers a lot of variety in their classes. You can participate in traditional painting classes like Oil Painting (Bob Ross Wet On Wet), or you can expand your horizons and try Craft Mania with Tazz or Ceramics Class.

If you are looking for a more social experience, classes like Happy Hour Sip & Paint, Mommy & Me, and Family Fun Night are also available! 

Franklin Anderson Gallery of Arts

After participating in a few classes at Paint the Town Citrus or Happy Painting & More, you may have a greater appreciation to the amount of hard work and dedication that goes into creating any type of artwork.  You might have a newfound recognition for the items on display at the Franklin Anderson Gallery of Arts in Crystal River! 

This adorable little house on North Citrus Ave is filled with all types of local and national art that includes traditional painting and photography to pottery, wood, glass, jewelry, and other fine crafts. Owner and contributing artist Karen Anderson has put together this amazing collection that is one of the best-kept secrets in the area! 

Franklin Anderson Gallery of Arts is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and also by appointment. 

Regardless of how much artistic talent or training you might have, there is always a good time to be had at each of these three local treasures. The next time you are looking for something creative to do, let your inner artist out and explore Citrus County!
