Rainy Day Excursion: The Florida Aquarium

A great way to spend a rainy day at the Villages of Citrus Hills is to visit the Florida Aquarium in Tampa.

Because we are fortunate to have such spectacular weather here in Citrus County, residents of the Villages of Citrus Hills can sometimes find themselves unsure of what to do on the days where the golf and tennis weather is not optimal.

 One indoor activity that is a great way to fill a rainy day is taking a trip down to The Florida Aquarium in Tampa. 

 Located in Tampa’s Channelside area, The Florida Aquarium is just over 90 minutes away from the Villages of Citrus Hills.

 The aquarium is open daily from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm and is also surrounded by great restaurants and shopping options. The list of things to see and do at The Florida Aquarium is constantly growing, which is what makes it one of the most popular attractions in the Tampa area.

 Exhibits, Shows, and Interactive Experiences

 What makes any great aquarium special is the level of detail in its exhibits. The Florida Aquarium has displays that really focus on the detailed environments of their inhabitants.

The Wetlands Trail showcase features alligators and otters, the Journey to Madagascar contains leaping lemurs and hissing cockroaches, and the Bays and Beaches demonstrates aquatic life along the shore.

 Another detailed display is the Coral Reef, which simulates a 60-foot dive into a beautiful coral reef. 

The newest show at The Florida Aquarium is called Ocean Commotion. Here you will be entertained while you observe interviews with six different characters of the sea. Many of the others feature shows like the Predators of the Reef and Penguin Promenade shows at the Coral Reef or the Live Animal Presentations at the Wetlands Trail exhibit. 

 Like many popular aquariums, The Florida Aquarium also contains a number of interactive showcases where you can reach out and touch aquatic animals like stingrays, horseshoe crabs, starfish, and sea urchins! If you want an even more interactive experience, there are also options for getting into the water where you can Swim with the Fishes or Dive with the Sharks! 

 The Florida Aquarium also features a 72-foot catamaran that will take you on a 75-minute cruise out into the bay to see live wild dolphins and manatees!

 The next time the weather isn’t cooperating with your plans for a day of golfing or tennis, keep in mind that a wonderful time can be had indoors at The Florida Aquarium, making this a great option for a rainy day excursion.
