The Villages of Citrus Hills, one of the best places to retire, hosted an exquisite Summer Soiree cooking class led by the talented Rhonda Temple Evans. Our culinary adventure kicked off with a choice between a classic Mai Tai or a zesty Daiquiri. I opted for the Daiquiri, and it was the perfect blend of tart and sweet, with the lime adding a refreshing touch that complemented the summer evening. This delightful start was a preview of the exceptional flavors to come, highlighting the upscale, resort-style living that residents of Citrus Hills enjoy daily.

 

A Taste of the Tropics with Shrimp and Salsa


The first course was a tropical shrimp cocktail, served with a vibrant pineapple mango salsa. The giant prawns were perfectly cooked, and the salsa added a burst of fruity freshness that was simply divine. Rhonda Temple Evans guided us through each step of the recipe, emphasizing the importance of using fresh, local ingredients—a philosophy that aligns with the healthy, active lifestyle that makes Citrus Hills the best place to retire in Florida.

 

Mastering the Art of Ceviche and Chowder

Next, we delved into the art of making ceviche with sweet red snapper. Rhonda’s expert tips on selecting the freshest fish and the proper curing time were invaluable. Following this, we savored a rich corn chowder, with Rhonda demonstrating the best techniques for shucking corn and utilizing every part of the cob. These dishes were not only delicious but also showcased the kind of hands-on learning and engagement that makes living in Citrus Hills so enriching.

 

A Delectable Finale with Chicken Marbella and Key Lime Pie

The final courses were a true testament to Rhonda’s culinary expertise. We enjoyed a beautifully presented Chicken Marbella over jasmine rice, followed by a no-bake key lime pie that was both easy to prepare and absolutely delicious.

Rhonda’s passion for cooking shone through in every recipe, and her philosophy that “we have to eat to stay alive, it should at least be fun,” was both inspiring and reflective of the vibrant, fulfilling lifestyle that awaits at Citrus Hills.
